Programs and Services
Primary Care Clinic
DVHWC offers uninsured adults professional medical services in a caring setting. Patients may drop in to the Clinic at the end of the work day to see a Physician, Physician's Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner on a first come, first served basis.
The volunteer medical team will conduct an assessment, order lab and x-rays, diagnose and treat acute and chronic illness, prescribe medication, and make referrals to specialists as medically required.
For patients who meet income eligibility requirements, a Prescription Assistance Program (PAP) is available to help with the costs of medicine.
Olympic Medical Center (OMC) provides lab and X-rays for uninsured Clinic patients, at no cost.
Chronic Healthcare Clinic
The Chronic Healthcare Clinic provides continuity of care for patients with diseases that require ongoing treatment, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and respiratory diseases.
The availability of a part-time nurse practitioner allows patients to see the same care provider on each visit. This increases patient compliance with treatment goals, thus stabilizing the patient's health status. Such continuity of care can delay complications of disease processes and keep the patient in the work force longer.
In addition to tracking patients' status, the practitioner educates patients about their disease, treatment options, and the importance of compliance, all which contribute to stabilizing the condition and delaying complications.
Dental Referral Service
More than twice the number of adults who lack basic health insurance lack dental insurance. This means that people without health insurance have four times the rate of unmet dental needs as the insured. These numbers are 20% higher in rural populations such as Sequim.
The American Dental Association reports that three out of four adults over age 35 - roughly 75% of Americans - are affected by some sort of gum disease. Studies increasingly point to the connection between chronic oral infection and other chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, premature births, obesity, and strokes.
The cost of emergent and preventive dental care is funded by the City of Sequim and the Haller Foundation.
Wellness Education
The DVHWC Board of Directors and staff are vigorously committed to disease prevention and wellness. A Board committee has taken a spirited lead in creating a Wellness Education program that will serve the whole community, beginning with existing clinic patients.
The Wellness Committee has crafted the following statement of purpose: Our mission is to invite, encourage, and guide individuals to express and commit to a wellness process through coaching, educating, listening, providing resources, and leading by example.
With the theme W o r k i n g o n W e l l n e s s ® and the motto Add years to your life, and life to your years! the committee has created a series of Wellness Forums, free educational sessions designed to enhance your quality of life in mind, body & spirit. See the Events page for topics, dates, times, and location.
